The novel is written in first person plural from the perspective of an anonymous group of teenage boys who struggle to find an explanation for the Lisbons’ deaths. He has said that he has been haunted by the decline of Detroit. The writing is as beautiful as the sisters, the story travels quickly almost without pause and you get really I really loved the way this story was delivered, told from the point of view of the neighbourhood boys who have an obsessive fascination for the five Lisbon sisters who all succumb eugendies suicide.

I usually see storytelling as being more important than the writing, but in this suicises I couldn’t separate the two — the writing is beautiful and the style feels essential to the story. These guys are outsiders but manage to tell a raw story about these girls.
